CAKE - Shut The Fuck Up [Original ‘94 recording of the song “Nugget”]

Thirteen years after picking up Fashion Nugget, I still tell people CAKE is my favorite. Forget how mediocre their live shows have become, forget how middle-of-the-road Comfort Eagle was, based off Motorcade and Fashion Nugget alone, they’ll probably always be my favorite. Those are two perfect albums. And man, everything else is pretty good too. Party albums. Comfort Eagle still puts a smile on everyone’s faces when you blast it from a boombox by the lake.

Learn to buck up…

“My books are still the same books as they were before they were made into films. The books haven’t changed. I’m reminded of the remark by, I think it was Raymond Chandler, where he was asked about what he felt about having his books “ruined” by Hollywood. And he led the questioner into his study and showed him all the books there on the bookshelf, and said, Look—there they all are. They’re all fine. They’re fine. They’re not ruined. They’re still there. And I think that’s pretty much the attitude I take. If the books are as good as I think they are, then they are the things that will endure. And if the films are as bad as I think they are, then they are the things that will not endure. So, I suppose we’ll see at the end of the day, whenever that is.” —Alan Moore on film adaptations of his work (good interview) (via kenohno)

Battle of the Birthdays Campaign Commercials

Hey, Tom and I are having a joint birthday party/birthday battle on March 7th. We don’t want to share, so we’re fighting over whose party it is. There’s even going to be a vote.

Here’s a fun idea: If you’re feeling creative or just love picking sides, make us some campaign commercials and we’ll show them the night of the party on a big loud screen. Something like 15 seconds to 30 seconds. It’s suggested that your commercial should end with “Vote Tom for Birthday Boy” or “Vote Dave for Birthday Boy” or something like that. Make a commercial for one, both, or neither of us. Be your own moveon dot org. Get your commercials to me in some form (upload, bring to my apartment, etc) by March 5th at the absolute latest. And HAVE FUN. And also THANKS. And also I LOVE YOU.

Pony (Acoustic Version) - by FAR

An acoustic version of their Ginuwine cover. From this Live105 radio interview, in which Jonah admits that Far is together again writing and recording new material… probably on Vagrant Records. Apparently, the album is planned to be up in the digital world by the end of May. That’s some news, man oh man.
